ERROR_GRAPHICS_INVALID_VIDEOPRESENTTARGETSET
ERROR_GRAPHICS_INVALID_VIDEOPRESENTTARGETSET (0xC0262316) means a collection of VidPN video-present target identifiers was invalid. A target identifies a display endpoint in the VidPN topology; it is not the same as a target mode set containing video-signal formats.
Target sets and topology
Target identifiers originate in the display miniport driver child relations. A topology consists of source-to-target paths, and a particular target belongs to at most one path. This rule prevents one physical target from being driven by multiple sources in the same VidPN.
What to check
- Refresh child relations after dock attach or detach, display hot-plug, and adapter restart before reusing any target list.
- Verify that every target ID is valid for the adapter that owns the VidPN and that the target is not already bound through a conflicting path.
- Do not substitute a monitor descriptor index, an OS display number, or a connector name for a VidPN target ID.
- When a target disappears during enumeration, discard the whole candidate topology and query the current state again.
How it differs from target-mode errors
This status is about the identity collection of targets. ERROR_GRAPHICS_INVALID_VIDPN_TARGETMODESET and ERROR_GRAPHICS_INVALID_VIDEO_PRESENT_TARGET_MODE are about the signal modes offered for an otherwise valid target.
