ERROR_GRAPHICS_MONITORDESCRIPTOR_ID_MUST_BE_UNIQUE
ERROR_GRAPHICS_MONITORDESCRIPTOR_ID_MUST_BE_UNIQUE means the collection contains an identifier collision. The ID distinguishes descriptor records inside the set; it should not be derived only from manufacturer, product code, or another field that can repeat across blocks.
Let the interface allocate IDs where possible, or maintain a set-local allocator that advances for every inserted record. Resetting the counter in an inner extension loop or restoring partially populated state can assign the same ID twice. The same numeric value may be valid in another monitor set, but every record in the current set needs an unambiguous identity.
Collision sources to audit
- Counter initialization inside a per-block parsing function.
- Reusing an ID when replacing a descriptor without removing the old record.
- Deriving IDs from non-unique EDID product fields.
- Merging hardware and override collections without remapping their local IDs.
