The session transition is not a stable OPM state
OPM depends on the kind of Windows session and the desktop that owns the video output. During a transition between console, disconnected, or remote session states, the output contract is intentionally unstable. The error is not evidence that a particular OPM command or HDCP capability is invalid.
During this interval, issuing more status or configuration requests against the same object can mix a state transition with a protocol failure. The correct boundary is the session event: pause protected playback handling, observe the resulting display topology, and create a new output session only after the environment has settled.
What to avoid
- Do not advance or reset OPM counters merely because the session change is still in progress; a replacement OPM object requires a fresh initialization exchange.
- Do not classify a remote-session transition as an HDCP handshake problem.
- If the session change removes the output, handle the later destroyed-output or renegotiation condition rather than preserving the old interface.
