ERROR_GRAPHICS_MCA_MCCS_VERSION_MISMATCH means the mccs_ver token in the capabilities string disagrees with the value returned by VCP feature 0xDF. Because feature meanings can change between MCCS revisions, choosing either value without evidence can decode later replies incorrectly.
Retrieve both sources during the same physical-monitor session and store their raw values. Re-enumerate after input or power changes to avoid comparing data from different monitor states. If the discrepancy is stable, treat it as firmware nonconformance and use only a documented, model-specific compatibility rule; a generic preference for the numerically newer version is unsafe.
