STATUS_HV_UNKNOWN_PROPERTY
The property selector is not part of the exposed property set
STATUS_HV_UNKNOWN_PROPERTY means the hypervisor does not recognize the requested partition property code. This is more specific than an out-of-range value: the selector itself is unknown to the implementation or interface made visible to the caller.
Check the guest-visible Hyper-V interface and the exact property enumeration used by the host-management component. A newer property definition in headers does not guarantee that an older host, a nested implementation, or a third-party HV#1-compatible hypervisor exposes it. Compatibility decisions should use documented feature discovery, not an assumed host version.
Useful comparison points
- The numeric property code emitted by the caller and the header/specification revision that defined it.
- The Hyper-V interface signature and partition feature data reported at runtime.
- Whether the request crosses a nested virtualization boundary.
- Fallback behavior for an unsupported property versus a failed property update.
