STATUS_HV_INACTIVE
The Hyper-V debug transport has stopped receiving data
STATUS_HV_INACTIVE is a transport-state clue. It is normally relevant to the physical or low-level Hyper-V debugging connection rather than to a guest application error. The status says the connection used for debugging did not record receive activity since the previous operation.
That makes timing and transport evidence more important than VM configuration alone. A guest can still exist while the diagnostic channel is idle, disconnected, misrouted, or no longer receiving bytes.
What to inspect
- The debug transport type and the last successful receive operation.
- Connection resets, cable or network path changes, firewall rules, and host debugger state.
- Whether the target partition was paused, reset, migrated, or stopped between operations.
- Timeout thresholds and whether the tool converts inactivity into a hard failure too aggressively.
Useful distinction
This differs from STATUS_HV_NO_DATA: no data can be a normal empty read, while inactive indicates the receive side of the debugging connection itself has not shown recent activity.
