STATUS_VID_PARTITION_ALREADY_EXISTS
A VID partition with that name already exists
STATUS_VID_PARTITION_ALREADY_EXISTS is a collision in the host partition namespace. It is different from STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_COLLISION at the file-system layer and should be investigated in the Hyper-V management path.
A partition is created as part of setting up a VM execution environment. Seeing this status after a failed start often means an earlier create path partially succeeded and a later retry reused the same name.
The host-side partition name is already bound to an existing VID partition, preventing creation of another partition with the same identity. Correlate the collision with earlier create failures and worker-process restarts to decide whether the existing partition is valid or is residue from an incomplete teardown.
What to inspect
- Check whether the previous VM worker process is still alive or shutting down.
- Look for duplicated VM IDs after clone/import operations.
- Verify whether cleanup removed the partition object before retrying creation with the same internal name.
