STATUS_VID_SAVED_STATE_UNRECOGNIZED_ITEM
The saved state contains an unrecognized item
STATUS_VID_SAVED_STATE_UNRECOGNIZED_ITEM means saved-state parsing reached a data item that the current virtualization stack does not understand.
Saved-state parsing reached an item that the current VID implementation does not recognize, which is more specific than an unreadable file. Record host and VM version changes and the restore path before discarding the state, because an unknown item can reflect format or feature mismatch as well as damaged saved-state data.
This can be version, feature, extension, or corruption related. It is more specific than unreadable saved state: the data was read far enough to identify an unsupported or unexpected item.
What to inspect
- Compare VM configuration version and host Windows build with the host that created the saved state.
- Check for saved state created before feature upgrades, migration, backup restore, or moving between hosts.
- Distinguish this from disk-format problems; the status belongs to runtime saved-state metadata.
