STATUS_VOLMGR_DISK_LAYOUT_PARTITIONS_TOO_SMALL
STATUS_VOLMGR_DISK_LAYOUT_PARTITIONS_TOO_SMALL means that a proposed layout contains a partition too small for the Volume Manager operation. It is not a statement about how much free space is visible inside a filesystem; the rejected size is part of the disk layout itself.
Small gaps can be consumed by alignment, partition-table structures, metadata, or the operation's own minimum-size requirements. A layout that adds up arithmetically may therefore still be unusable.
What to check
- Calculate partition offsets and lengths in bytes or logical sectors from the layout actually sent to Windows.
- Include reserved regions and alignment gaps rather than treating the raw capacity as fully allocatable.
- When an installer or imaging workflow created the layout, compare its requested minimums with the target device capacity and sector geometry.
