STATUS_VOLMGR_EXTENT_NOT_CONTIGUOUS
STATUS_VOLMGR_EXTENT_NOT_CONTIGUOUS applies to a retained volume whose growth rule requires the next extent to be immediately adjacent to the existing one. It is more specific than "not enough space": free capacity may exist elsewhere on the disk, but it cannot be used for this extension.
Do not assume that a volume manager can relocate existing data or create a spanning layout as a side effect. The status describes a constraint of this volume state and requested operation.
What to check
- Locate the current end of the volume and the next physical range on the same disk.
- Determine which partition, metadata area, or other extent breaks adjacency.
- Choose a supported migration or redesign path instead of forcing a noncontiguous range into a retained-volume request.
