The member count is inconsistent with the requested volume topology

STATUS_VOLMGR_NUMBER_OF_MEMBERS_INVALID rejects the number of volume members described by the request. It is a topology-validation status and does not by itself indicate that any member is missing from the machine.

The meaning of a member depends on the fault-tolerant layout: Microsoft protocol documentation treats a mirrored-volume plex and a RAID-5 column/member differently. The expected count therefore has to be interpreted with the volume and plex type, not as a universal constant.

Compare the declared member count with the actual member array and the intended operation. A request generated from stale topology can still contain valid member IDs individually while its count no longer matches the current plex organization.
