The volume describes the wrong number of complete-copy layouts

STATUS_VOLMGR_NUMBER_OF_PLEXES_INVALID concerns the plex count for a volume. Microsoft defines a plex as a complete copy of volume data; mirrored volumes have more than one plex, while other volume types use a different organization.

An invalid count can arise when a caller combines a volume type with a plex array that cannot represent that type, or when cached layout data loses or duplicates a plex entry. It is not the same as STATUS_VOLMGR_PLEX_MISSING, which reports the state of a plex that should exist.

Inspect the volume type, declared number of plexes, and each plex index together. If management software synthesizes the layout, assert that plex indices are unique and that the array length matches the count field before the request reaches Volume Manager.
