STATUS_VOLMGR_PLEX_LAST_ACTIVE is a data-availability guard. The selected plex is the only active complete copy left, so removing it would force the volume offline.
A plex represents a full copy of volume data. In a healthy mirror there can be multiple active plexes, but failures, detach operations, or incomplete recovery can leave one survivor. The status specifically blocks removal; it does not claim the last plex is healthy or safe as the sole long-term copy.
Before any destructive action, identify why the other plexes are inactive. Restore a missing storage path or complete repair where possible, then verify another plex is active before retrying removal of the original target.
What to inspect
- Enumerate all plexes and record active, missing, detached, and rebuilding state for each one.
- Confirm whether a failed storage path can be restored before modifying the sole active plex.
- Take or validate backups because a volume with one surviving active copy has no mirror redundancy left.
