STATUS_VOLMGR_PLEX_REGENERATING
A plex rebuild is already in progress
STATUS_VOLMGR_PLEX_REGENERATING indicates an active recovery transition on the selected plex. Volume Manager will not start another operation that assumes the plex is idle or in a stable final state.
VDS health distinguishes rebuilding from healthy, stale, or failing states. Recovery can resynchronize mirrored volumes or regenerate RAID-5 data, and those asynchronous tasks may continue after a management client has timed out or disconnected.
Before retrying, inspect the authoritative plex health and any outstanding task result. If the original request is still progressing, a duplicate command only creates contention; if it failed, diagnose that task and re-enumerate topology before scheduling a replacement recovery action.
What to inspect
- Query plex health and transition state rather than treating a client timeout as proof that rebuilding stopped.
- Correlate the plex with the asynchronous task that initiated regeneration and retain its completion result.
- Delay topology-changing operations until the rebuild leaves the regenerating state.
