STATUS_VOLMGR_TOO_MANY_NOTIFICATION_REQUESTS
Only one outstanding notification wait is available to this client flow
STATUS_VOLMGR_TOO_MANY_NOTIFICATION_REQUESTS occurs when another notification request is already pending. Microsoft’s status text explicitly directs the caller to wait for the existing request to return before asking for more notifications.
This differs from reaching the registered-user limit: registration may be valid, but the same client flow has issued overlapping waits. The error is therefore a concurrency or request-lifetime problem in notification consumption.
Trace the pending request from submission to completion or cancellation. A common failure pattern is a timeout path that starts a replacement wait without first confirming that the original server-side request ended, leaving two logical waits associated with one client.
What to inspect
- Maintain one authoritative pending-notification request identifier per registered client.
- On timeout or reconnect, cancel or complete the existing wait before submitting its replacement.
- Instrument request start and return times so duplicated waits are visible in client logs.
