STATUS_VOLMGR_VOLUME_ID_INVALID
The requested volume ID is absent from the current Volume Manager topology
STATUS_VOLMGR_VOLUME_ID_INVALID means no volume exists with the supplied volume identifier. This is an internal object-selection failure; it should not be diagnosed from drive-letter visibility alone.
Volume identities can outlive a cached UI row or task object even when the underlying topology has changed through import, removal, or recreation. A drive letter may also be reassigned to a different volume, so translating an old ID from current mount information can target the wrong object.
Log the rejected ID and re-enumerate volumes from the same provider/pack used by the operation. If a client stores IDs across service restarts or migration events, review that persistence policy and invalidate references when Volume Manager reports topology changes.
What to inspect
- Compare the rejected volume ID with a fresh enumeration of the intended pack.
- Do not substitute a drive letter or mount path as proof that the old internal volume object still exists.
- Clear cached object identifiers after volume deletion, import, recreation, or notification reset.
