A storage failure now intersects the Windows boot path

STATUS_VOLMGR_BAD_BOOT_DISK identifies a failed or failing boot disk in the Volume Manager path. This is more consequential than a generic dynamic-disk health error because the affected disk participates in starting Windows or hosting boot-volume state.

On mirrored boot configurations, the availability of another plex does not automatically mean that firmware, EFI/MBR boot data, or the secondary boot path is usable. Microsoft documents separate procedures for dynamic boot mirrors precisely because data mirroring and bootability are not the same property.

Treat the status as a recovery-planning signal. Preserve the current layout, identify the active boot plex and underlying physical disk, then verify whether a tested alternate boot path exists before attempting layout conversion or disk replacement.
