STATUS_VOLMGR_NUMBER_OF_DISKS_IN_MEMBER_INVALID

One member describes an impossible disk composition

STATUS_VOLMGR_NUMBER_OF_DISKS_IN_MEMBER_INVALID is narrower than the overall disk-count error. The total request may contain a plausible number of disks, but the count associated with one member of a plex is invalid.

MS-DMRP notes that a volume member is a plex for a mirrored volume or a column/member for a RAID-5 volume. Because those roles have different topology, the member-level disk count must agree with the plex and volume type represented by the rest of the layout.

Inspect the member record and its referenced disk/extents as one unit. A serializer that calculates the parent counts correctly but truncates or duplicates a nested member array can produce this status while every physical disk remains healthy.
