ERROR_VHD_METADATA_READ_FAILURE
ERROR_VHD_METADATA_READ_FAILURE means Windows could not read metadata required to open or operate the virtual disk. The fault may be in the VHD/VHDX file, the host file system, or the storage path.
What to check
- Review host storage and file-system events at the same time as the failed open.
- Try validation against a copy stored on known-good media to separate media errors from file corruption.
- Do not rely on a successful guest boot after a retry as proof that metadata is healthy.
