STATUS_BTH_ATT_UNSUPPORTED_GROUP_TYPE

The error belongs to Read By Group Type discovery, not ordinary reads

STATUS_BTH_ATT_UNSUPPORTED_GROUP_TYPE maps to ATT error 0x10. It applies when a client sends a Read By Group Type request with an Attribute Group Type that the higher-level profile does not define as a supported grouping attribute.

A characteristic UUID or an arbitrary descriptor type is not automatically a valid group type. In GATT, group discovery is used for structured ranges such as service discovery, so a client must select the type required by that procedure rather than reuse a normal attribute UUID.
