STATUS_HDAUDIO_NULL_LINKED_LIST_ENTRY
An internal HD Audio topology or device list is inconsistent
HD Audio enumeration and routing code maintains linked collections of codecs, widgets, paths, streams, or logical subdevices. A null pointer in a position that should reference the subsequent valid entry indicates corrupted bookkeeping, incomplete initialization, or a lifetime error during teardown or power transition.
This status is more specific than a codec capability mismatch. It points to driver-managed state and should be investigated with the list owner, allocation history, and concurrent PnP or power activity.
What to inspect
- Capture the list type, current entry, owning device object, and call stack.
- Check whether removal, surprise removal, stop, or resume ran concurrently with traversal.
- Audit initialization and cleanup paths for partially inserted or prematurely freed entries.
- Use Driver Verifier and pool diagnostics when memory corruption or use-after-free is suspected.
