STATUS_SVHDX_UNIT_ATTENTION_REGISTRATIONS_PREEMPTED
The node lost its registration, not merely write ownership
STATUS_SVHDX_UNIT_ATTENTION_REGISTRATIONS_PREEMPTED means the initiator’s persistent-reservation registration was removed or preempted. Registration is the identity layer used by reservation protocols; losing it is not equivalent to merely losing an active write reservation.
A node that has lost registration should not try to restore application I/O by retrying the original command. It must first follow the clustered workload’s recovery path so that identity, registration key, and current ownership are established consistently with the other participants.
What to verify
- Log the initiator identity and reservation key that were active before the event.
- Check guest-cluster membership and fencing or failover events before re-registering.
- Avoid hand-crafted reservation-key changes that could conflict with the cluster manager’s state.
