E_IMAPI_DF2DATA_WRITE_IN_PROGRESS reports an IDiscFormat2Data lifecycle conflict: the format object is already performing a write. The Write call sends an IStream to the device, while write progress is reported through data-format events during the operation.
Serialize operations around the active writer object
- Record the first
Writecall and the thread or task that owns it. - Do not start a second write or mutate write-sensitive state on the same format object while the first operation is active.
- Use the write progress/event path and cancellation API instead of polling by issuing another write.
The error is about the format object’s current operation, not whether the disc already contains data. E_IMAPI_DF2DATA_MEDIA_NOT_BLANK is the separate non-blank-media policy failure. If no write is expected, inspect reentrancy from UI commands, duplicate job dispatch or a callback that reuses the same COM object before the original operation returns.
