IMAPI_E_DIRECTORY_READ_FAILURE
IMAPI_E_DIRECTORY_READ_FAILURE is documented for IFsiDirectoryItem::AddTree when IMAPI cannot enumerate files in the source directory tree. This is distinct from opening one file's data stream: the failure occurs while discovering directory contents and mirroring the source structure into the image hierarchy.
Diagnose source-tree enumeration at the failing directory
- Record the source directory passed to
AddTreeand whether the call was made from the root or a child image directory. - Check directory-listing permissions and whether entries are being created, removed, or renamed concurrently.
- Preserve the underlying Win32 error if the application can reproduce the same enumeration outside IMAPI.
Microsoft notes that AddTree can also return values originating from file-enumeration APIs. The best reproduction is therefore the smallest source subtree that fails consistently. Copying the entire tree to another location may hide the original access or concurrency problem, so retain the problematic directory metadata and execution identity before testing a clean staging copy.
