STATUS_CLIP_LICENSE_INVALID_SIGNATURE
The license signature cannot be validated
CLiP licenses are protected objects rather than editable configuration files. This status means signature verification failed, which can result from altered bytes, corruption, an incomplete transfer, use of the wrong verification key, or a license record paired with the wrong surrounding data. It differs from STATUS_CLIP_LICENSE_NOT_SIGNED, where no acceptable signature is present at all.
Because the signature protects license integrity and issuer authenticity, bypassing validation would undermine the entitlement model. The correct repair is to reacquire the license from its authoritative source and investigate why the local copy no longer verifies.
What to inspect
- Preserve the failing license record and relevant ClipSVC events before clearing caches.
- Check storage, filesystem, servicing, and security-product events for modification or truncation.
- Refresh or redeploy the license from Microsoft Store or the enterprise license source.
- Do not edit, resign, or copy a license from another account or device.
