WDSTPC_E_CLIENT_DEMOTE_NOT_SUPPORTED
WDSTPC_E_CLIENT_DEMOTE_NOT_SUPPORTED is a client capability distinction within WDS multistream handling. Microsoft explicitly notes that legacy clients that do not support the multistream option cannot be moved to lower-speed streams.
Do not confuse client capability with server policy state
- Confirm that the server is actually configured for multistream slow-client handling.
- Identify the client version/capability associated with the active WDS client object and session.
- Inspect
SlowClientFallback, because unsupported clients are disconnected or instructed to use an alternate retrieval mechanism according to policy.
A demotion retry will not add multistream capability to a legacy client. The server policy already defines the alternate handling path for this case. Keep this code distinct from WDSTPC_E_MULTISTREAM_NOT_ENABLED, where the feature is not active, and from WDSTPC_E_ALREADY_IN_LOWEST_SESSION, where the client supports multistream but has no lower stream available.
