Quality-index metrics compare image structure and contrast. If the selected image region is constant, a variance or contrast term can collapse to zero and the metric no longer has a meaningful denominator.
When this status appears, verify the input ROI before treating it as a codec failure. A blank frame, saturated channel or wrong ROI offset can create a mathematically degenerate metric calculation.
Check these details
- Whether every pixel in the measured ROI has the same value.
- Whether the ROI accidentally points at padding, a border area or an initialized blank frame.
- Whether the caller should skip the metric for constant images and report that case separately.
