WSAETIMEDOUT
WSAETIMEDOUT means that a connection attempt did not complete in time, or that an existing connection was dropped after a network failure or an unresponsive peer.
Interpret it in context
During connect, the remote endpoint may be filtered, offline, or too slow to respond. During a receive, the connection might already have been lost. The code is not evidence that DNS resolution failed or that the remote service actively rejected the request.
What to check
- The operation stage: initial connection, send, receive, or an application-level request timeout.
- Timeouts at proxies, load balancers, firewalls, NAT devices, and the application protocol.
- Whether the retry is safe and idempotent before creating a new connection.
