WSAEPROCLIM
WSAEPROCLIM is associated with Winsock implementation capacity, especially initialization. Microsoft documents WSAStartup as a possible source when the implementation has reached its limit on applications using Windows Sockets simultaneously.
It is not a server connection limit
The code describes local Winsock admission, not the number of authenticated sessions allowed by a remote service. It also differs from WSAEMFILE, which concerns open socket handles, and from WSAENOBUFS, which points to buffer or queue resources.
What to investigate
- Repeated
WSAStartup/WSACleanupimbalance in process lifecycle code. - The exact process and provider catalog state when initialization begins failing.
- Whether the failure is isolated to one application architecture or provider chain.
- Recent Winsock provider, VPN, security, or networking middleware installation.
Log the requested Winsock version and the WSAStartup result before creating any sockets. Retrying socket creation cannot repair an initialization failure; the application must first obtain a successful Winsock startup.
