What does Windows error code 10104 (WSAEINVALIDPROCTABLE) mean?

WSAECANCELLED WSAEINVALIDPROVIDER

WSAEINVALIDPROCTABLE

WSAEINVALIDPROCTABLE is a Winsock Service Provider Interface problem, not a remote network error. During provider initialization, Ws2_32 expects a valid procedure table describing the SPI entry points that it can call.

What Winsock validates

Microsoft documents this error when a service provider returns a bogus procedure table, commonly because one or more required function pointers are NULL. Layered providers are especially sensitive to this contract because the layer above calls the SPI functions exposed by the provider below it.

Likely diagnostic scope

Restarting the remote server cannot fix this code because the failure occurs while constructing the local provider call path. For old layered service providers, also remember that Microsoft deprecates LSP-based filtering in favor of Windows Filtering Platform on modern Windows.
