ERROR_SXS_LEAF_MANIFEST_DEPENDENCY_NOT_INSTALLED

ERROR_SXS_LEAF_MANIFEST_DEPENDENCY_NOT_INSTALLED means that Windows found a dependent assembly but one of that assembly's own dependencies could not be resolved. The missing component is therefore deeper in the SxS dependency graph than the application manifest.

How to investigate

  • Read the SideBySide trace from the first missing identity upward to see which assembly introduced the transitive dependency.
  • Repair the prerequisite chain or private assembly package as a whole rather than adding only the first DLL mentioned by the application.
  • Check that all dependent manifests use compatible architecture, version, and language attributes.

The application manifest can look correct while a nested assembly manifest is incomplete or refers to an unavailable component.
