The requested window type contradicts WS_CHILD

Win32 distinguishes child windows from top-level and pop-up windows. WS_CHILD creates a child whose position is relative to a parent client area and whose relationship to the parent affects clipping, notification, destruction, and the meaning of the hMenu creation parameter.

This error indicates a contradictory creation request. It is not repaired by changing coordinates or calling ShowWindow later. The style and parent/owner model must agree at the time the window is created.

What to check

Inspect the exact dwStyle passed to CreateWindowEx.
Decide whether the object is a child control, an owned pop-up, or an independent top-level window.
For a child, provide the intended parent and treat hMenu as a child ID.
For a top-level window, remove WS_CHILD and review owner semantics separately.

Do not confuse a parent with an owner: owned top-level windows and child windows follow different window-manager rules.
