ERROR_SXS_XML_E_UNCLOSEDENDTAG

ERROR_SXS_XML_E_UNCLOSEDENDTAG (0x000036ED) is a Windows Side-by-Side XML parser status for application, assembly, policy, or configuration manifest processing.

The parser recognized end-tag syntax beginning with </ and a name, but the tag never completed with >. The element name itself may be valid even though the end-tag delimiter is incomplete.

Parser boundary

XML end tags have the form </Name S?>. Attributes do not belong in an end tag, so extra tokens after the name can also occupy the place where the parser expects the final greater-than sign.

What to inspect

Use the SxS trace to find the manifest and malformed closing tag; this status is more specific than the general unclosed-tag list and should be repaired first.
