ERROR_STATE_DELETE_CONTAINER_FAILED

A state container could not be deleted

ERROR_STATE_DELETE_CONTAINER_FAILED indicates that removal of a logical state container did not finish. The container can remain fully present or be only partially cleaned, depending on the failing phase.

What can block deletion

Operational response

Stop users of the container, retry with a bounded policy, and verify existence afterward. For uninstall or reset workflows, report incomplete cleanup rather than claiming success.

Developer note

Design deletion as an idempotent operation and tolerate an already-absent container, but do not suppress genuine storage failures.

Data-retention concern

For uninstall, account removal, or privacy workflows, a failed delete means retained data may still exist. Record the result and offer a retry after dependent processes are stopped; do not downgrade the failure to a cosmetic warning.

Verification step

After deletion returns, query the container namespace again. Verification catches delayed failures and distinguishes an already-absent container from a repository that could not complete cleanup.
