ERROR_UNKNOWN_PRODUCT
ERROR_UNKNOWN_PRODUCT means that an MSI API call or command was made for a ProductCode that is not registered as installed in the relevant installation context. It can occur when an uninstall or maintenance command uses the wrong product identity.
Compare the ProductCode with installer registration for both per-user and per-machine contexts and with the package revision actually deployed. Correct stale inventory or command lines rather than registering a nonexistent product merely to satisfy maintenance logic.
What to check
- Verify the ProductCode belongs to the exact product and version that is present on the device.
- Check per-user versus per-machine installation context when the command is run by a management agent or another account.
- Do not substitute a display name for a ProductCode in an MSI command line.
