ERROR_INVALID_TABLE
Not every MSI contains every standard table
ERROR_INVALID_TABLE (1628) means Windows Installer cannot use the table named by the caller or action. Optional standard tables appear only when the package authors the corresponding feature, and custom tables must still conform to Installer database schema rules.
A transform can add or remove tables, while a patch may expose embedded transforms rather than a normal installation-database layout. A spelling error or querying the wrong database handle can therefore look identical to a genuinely missing optional table.
What to verify
- Enumerate the tables in the exact database handle being queried.
- Check table-name spelling and identifier quoting.
- Determine whether the table is optional for the package feature being inspected.
- Apply expected transforms before assuming the final schema.
- Do not query an MSP as though it were the already-transformed product MSI.
- Run package validation when a required standard table is absent or malformed.
