RPC_S_PROTOCOL_ERROR
RPC_S_PROTOCOL_ERROR means that the RPC runtime detected a protocol-level error while processing the remote procedure call. It does not identify an application error returned by the server procedure.
What it can indicate
The failure can result from an incompatible or corrupted RPC exchange, a broken intermediary, a transport-level failure detected while interpreting RPC data, or an implementation defect. The short status alone is intentionally not specific enough to identify the failing component.
How to investigate
- Record the client and server versions, interface UUID, transport and endpoint.
- Collect extended RPC error information before making unrelated RPC calls on the same thread.
- Compare with server logs and, when appropriate, a controlled network trace.
