RPC_S_CALL_CANCELLED
RPC_S_CALL_CANCELLED means that an RPC call was cancelled, or that a call timeout specified for cancellation expired. It does not by itself prove that the server performed no work.
Cancellation is a request, not a rollback
For synchronous cancellation, the client can stop waiting while the server-side routine still needs to observe cancellation and finish cleanup. For asynchronous RPC, cancellation and completion are also separate state transitions.
What to do
- Make server operations idempotent or provide a way to query final status.
- On the server, check for cancellation where the RPC model requires it and release resources predictably.
- Log whether the call was cancelled by the client, timed out, or aborted by application policy.
