RPC_S_NOT_RPC_ERROR
An RPC error-information API received a status from another facility
RPC_S_NOT_RPC_ERROR is a classification failure, not the original operation failure. Code attempted to interpret or enumerate a status as an RPC runtime error, but the value belongs to another facility, is an application-defined result, or has already been transformed incorrectly.
Preserve the original numeric value, signedness, and type before mapping between Win32, HRESULT, NTSTATUS, and exception representations. Call RPC extended-error APIs only for a status originating from the RPC runtime. If an application wraps errors, store the underlying RPC status separately so facility conversion does not destroy the diagnostic chain.
What to inspect
- Log values in hexadecimal and decimal before any conversion.
- Identify the API that produced the original status and its documented type.
- Do not pass arbitrary application errors into RPC error-enumeration functions.
