ERROR_PRINT_MONITOR_ALREADY_INSTALLED
Port monitors are installed spooler components that transfer printer data through a network, serial, parallel, or other communication path. AddMonitor installs a local port monitor and links the monitor's component files into the print system.
Because the monitor is registered by the print subsystem, installation should be state-aware. Repeating AddMonitor is not an appropriate way to verify or upgrade a component that is already present.
Inspect the installed monitor
- Enumerate monitors and compare the exact monitor name on the target server.
- Inspect MONITOR_INFO_2 data: monitor name, environment, and monitor DLL identify the registered component more precisely than a queue display name.
- Determine whether the deployment is an idempotent reinstall, an upgrade, or a request for a genuinely different monitor.
- Do not overwrite monitor binaries behind the spooler's back; use the component's documented installation and servicing path.
