ERROR_CORE_DRIVER_PACKAGE_NOT_FOUND
Printer packages can declare dependencies on core printer drivers rather than carrying every shared component independently. Windows exposes GetCorePrinterDrivers specifically to retrieve information such as GUID, version, date, and path for requested core printer-driver dependencies.
This makes the failure a dependency-resolution problem, not merely a search for the main driver's INF file. The target server and driver environment matter, and remote package deployment must account for dependent packages separately.
Trace the core dependency
- Capture the dependent core-driver GUIDs and the target print environment used by the package installation.
- Use GetCorePrinterDrivers to determine which requested core packages the target system can resolve and what versions are present.
- Compare the package's declared dependencies with the target server rather than validating only the primary driver name.
- For remote package staging, note that UploadPrinterDriverPackage requires dependent packages to be uploaded separately; stage the dependency chain before installing the main package.
