HTTP_STATUS_LENGTH_REQUIRED

The server requires an explicit body length before it will accept the request. A client can retry with a valid Content-Length value when the request format and transport allow it.

Check whether the client sent a body, used chunked transfer coding, or stripped framing headers at an intermediary. Do not calculate a length from character count when the body is encoded bytes.

RFC 9110: HTTP Semantics

Operational meaning of HTTP 411 for HTTP_STATUS_LENGTH_REQUIRED

HTTP 411 (this result) is a client-error response. AllStat records its meaning as “411 Length Required”. Interpret it with the request method, selected representation, response headers, and the specification or product that defines the code; the number alone does not prove that application work completed.

Client and server handling

For telemetry, record HTTP 411, method, authority, route template rather than secrets, response headers relevant to caching or retry, latency, upstream identity, and whether the response originated at the application or an intermediary.
