KERN_RPC_SERVER_TERMINATED
A missing reply from a terminated server
KERN_RPC_SERVER_TERMINATED reports that a Mach RPC target stopped before it replied successfully. It is not a generic application-protocol error: Mach RPC is built on messages and MIG-generated procedural interfaces, so the failure belongs to the service endpoint and reply path.
Do not assume that the requested action did not start. For an operation with side effects, retry safety depends on the service contract and on whether the client can determine that the server processed the request before termination.
What to inspect
- Collect the target service identity, request identifier, and reply-port information.
- Correlate server termination, crash, restart, or shutdown diagnostics from the same time window.
- Determine whether the operation is idempotent or has a durable request identifier.
- Check whether a new service instance is allowed to replay the request.
