ERROR_DRIVE_MEDIA_MISMATCH
The chosen drive does not match the selected medium
For a specific-drive mount, RSM requires more than an available drive. The media and drive must be compatible and, for a multi-item request, belong to the same online library. A cartridge may have the correct physical format but still fail because the supplied drive GUID is located in another library. This status is therefore narrower than general media incompatibility: it often identifies an invalid drive-media pairing constructed by the caller.
Allow RSM to choose the drive unless the application genuinely requires a specific device. If a specific drive is required, compare its drive type, supported media types and containing library with the medium location. Re-enumerate after robotics or configuration changes rather than trusting a previous slot-to-drive map.
What to inspect
- Compare the media library with the drive library.
- Inspect the drive type and the medium media-type relation.
- Retry without NTMS_MOUNT_SPECIFIC_DRIVE to test RSM selection.
