ERROR_MEDIA_INCOMPATIBLE
The media type conflicts with the selected destination
RSM maintains explicit media-type relations for libraries, drives and pools. A pool contains only one media type, while a library can expose several types through its drives. This status indicates a type-level incompatibility rather than the narrower case where a valid medium and drive were simply selected from different libraries. Examples include moving media into a pool of another type or trying to mount a cartridge in a drive that cannot read that format.
Compare the physical media type, target pool media type, library-supported media types and drive type. If a library actually supports the cartridge but the relation is missing, inventory and device configuration should be corrected; do not force the medium into an unrelated pool because pool membership controls allocation and security as well as labeling.
What to inspect
- Compare media, pool and drive type identifiers.
- Enumerate the media-type relations on the target library.
- Select a compatible pool and enabled drive before retrying.
