KERN_NODE_DOWN

Remote-node availability, not a local queue timeout

KERN_NODE_DOWN identifies a remote node that is down or inaccessible. It differs from KERN_OPERATION_TIMED_OUT, which is a local thread-oriented wait that expired, and from MACH_SEND_TIMED_OUT, which concerns admission to a local destination port queue.

The status belongs to older distributed-Mach semantics and low-level diagnostics. Preserve the endpoint and routing context before treating it as a generic network outage; the immediate failure may be in the Mach node relationship rather than an application socket connection.
