What does Windows error code 6720 (ERROR_TRANSACTIONMANAGER_RECOVERY_NAME_COLLISION) mean?

ERROR_TRANSACTIONMANAGER_NOT_ONLINE ERROR_TRANSACTION_NOT_ROOT

ERROR_TRANSACTIONMANAGER_RECOVERY_NAME_COLLISION

During recovery, the Transaction Manager needs to recreate objects recorded in its log. This status means it could not create those objects because a required name already collides in the Windows object namespace. The recovery failure is therefore about persistent KTM state and object naming, not about a duplicate application file name.

Diagnostic focus

Unlike ERROR_TRANSACTIONMANAGER_NOT_ONLINE, this code identifies a specific reason why recovery cannot reach the online state. Fix the name/identity conflict first, then recover the correct manager.

See RecoverTransactionManager, KTM concepts, and the WinError entry.
