ERROR_DS_NAME_TOO_MANY_PARTS
The directory name has too many structured components
A directory name is parsed into components such as RDNs and attribute-value assertions. This status is not a simple character-count failure; Active Directory has determined that the name contains too many parts for the relevant parser or directory operation. Deeply generated DNs and application-specific name formats are common places to look.
Parse the name rather than counting commas in the raw string. RFC 4514 permits escaped separators and multivalued RDNs, so textual punctuation is not a reliable component count. Compare the failing name with the parent DN and the application code that concatenates or translates names. Repeatedly appending an already-qualified suffix can accidentally duplicate the directory path.
What to inspect
- Decode and parse the exact DN into RDNs and AVAs.
- Check for duplicated base-DN suffixes or recursive path construction.
- Keep component-count analysis separate from total string-length analysis.
