ERROR_DS_DRA_OBJ_NC_MISMATCH
The replicated object and naming context do not match
ERROR_DS_DRA_OBJ_NC_MISMATCH is an Active Directory Directory Replication Agent (DRA) error. A replication operation referenced an object whose distinguished-name location does not belong to the naming context (NC) that the request is processing. It is unrelated to DFS Replication or SQL database replication.
Evidence to collect
- Record the source and destination domain controllers, object DN/GUID, requested NC, replication operation, and invocation/update identifiers involved in the failure.
- Confirm which NC should own the object: domain, configuration, schema, or an application partition.
- Inspect the earliest Directory Service replication event and replication metadata rather than attempting to move the object based only on the numeric error.
- If the error follows restore, lingering-object cleanup, cross-NC movement, or topology changes, preserve that sequence before modifying directory data.
Recovery
Correct the replication request or directory state that placed the object outside the expected naming context. Use supported Active Directory replication/metadata tools and authoritative directory operations; do not treat DFS-R state or ordinary user group membership as evidence for this DRA result.
