ERROR_DS_INIT_FAILURE_CONSOLE

The server cannot continue normal startup because AD DS initialization failed

This console-oriented status accompanies a fatal Directory Services initialization failure and includes a lower-level error value. Its practical significance is that normal DC service cannot continue, so the secondary status and the startup event sequence must drive recovery. The visible shutdown prompt is not itself the root cause.

Capture the error status before the machine cycles through another reboot. Directory Services Restore Mode starts Windows without AD DS and uses the local SAM for validation, which is the supported environment for offline Active Directory restore and many database diagnostics. Check the same underlying categories as any NTDS initialization failure—database/log access, storage, schema, configuration, and servicing—but do not assume Recovery Console or DSRM will automatically repair the condition.
